Tastings

We offer tastings so you can choose the perfect dishes for your event. We welcome you to try our entrees, appetizers, sauces, and garnishes as well as any customized, made-to-order requests!


Tastings may be done in-person at our restaurant or they may be delivered. Please call in advance to schedule a tasting

Banquet Platters

We offer 2 tray sizes, Large & X-Large. Large platters feed around 4-6 people, while an X-Large platter feeds around 6-8 people.

A La Carte, Single Servings

Comes with an egg roll and your choice of steamed or fried rice.

Beer, Wine, & Soft Drinks

Choose among a variety of beverages, including

If you have any questions, please call or text 503-888-0922. When ready, please e-mail your request to  qiuyo@yahoo.com or visit in person (1727 Willamette Falls Dr., West Linn, OR). You can find the  banquet request form for print/download at theessenceofchina.com. Once we receive your request, we  will contact you to finalize your order. We may require a credit card number to guarantee your order.  If you would like to meet in person, please call ahead of time. We may be unable to accommodate drop-ins during our busy hours.  


We usually require at least 24 hours’ notice for orders, During particularly busy seasons, more notice  may be required. In the case of an unanticipated event such as a memorial, we try our best to respond  quickly. If you would like your order delivered, it’s best to submit your order at least a week or more in  advance. Requests with customized dishes may require additional time. Please keep in mind that due to staffing and time constraints, we may be unable to  accommodate last-minute requests. We always recommend placing your order as soon as you decide to  cater with us.  


Banquet platters are served in two sizes: large (feeds about 4-6 people) and x-large  (feeds about 6-8 people). A la carte entrees are served in styrofoam take-out boxes.  Due to space, time, and handling  constraints we are unable to use customer provided platters. For delivered catering requests, we will bring your order to your door. 


Please note that we are not a full-service catering company. We do not provide staff and rental equipment for your event. We do not provide event set-up and decorations.


We schedule half-hour delivery windows, so let us know what your ideal window would be (11:00 to  11:30 am or 3:45 to 4:15pm, etc.). The times of the delivery window represent the earliest to the latest  times we could arrive. Our earliest delivery window is 9:30 to 10:00 am, and our latest is 9:30 to  10:00pm. We recommend your delivery window should be at least 15 minutes before your guests arrive,  so you have time to set up your buffet. When we deliver, we will bring the food to your door. We are not  in charge of set-up and design arrangements. If you would like help setting up, please let us know.  


 We charge a standard delivery fee of $15. Long distances may be subject to additional charge. Additional  charges may apply for large orders which require additional staff and vehicles.  


 Yes, we are happy to accommodate any changes to your order, so long as they are made at least 24  hours in advance.  


 Catering orders cancelled less than 24 hours before the scheduled event date will be charged 50% of the  total invoice. Orders that are cancelled the day of the scheduled event will be charged 75% of the total  invoice, and orders that are cancelled once the food has already been prepared will be subject to 100%  of the total invoice. These charges are to cover foods that cannot be used, labor, rental goods, and jobs  we may have declined to accommodate your event.  


 We do not automatically add gratuities to catering orders.
